Leddar Technology: Smart Lighting and HVAC occupancy sensing

Advanced occupancy sensing for smart lighting / HVAC

The superior, reliable presence detection capabilities of the Leddar technology makes it a very efficient sensing solution for monitoring the presence of occupants within a building’s specific room or area.

Smart homes or buildings systems integrating Leddar sensors help improve lighting and heating management, increasing the occupants’ comfort, and reducing energy costs. Intelligent HVAC systems can dynamically adjust the temperature from room to room, and lighting systems can adapt light levels based on the level of activity, both indoors and outdoors, which generates significant savings.

Key Leddar Benefits for smart lighting / HVAC occupancy sensing

  • Detection and tracking of multiple people over a large area
  • Precise positioning, independent of object reflectivity or color
  • Immune to ambient light, steam, temperature variations, or vibrations
  • No image captured, eliminating privacy concerns
  • Robust design, low maintenance, no calibration required
Leddar for HVAC occupancy sensing

The wide field of view created by a Leddar sensor’s diffused infrared light beam can be configured to monitor a specific area as well as to discriminate between multiple specific zones within this field of view, enabling precise detection and superior customization. Leddar’s high sensitivity combined with patented signal processing algorithms allows the sensor to filter out unwanted triggers (such as animal presence or air flow induced movements) to minimize the occurrence of false alarms.

Leddar for smart homes and buildings

Various configurations of Leddar sensors are available to precisely fit the need of the application. System integrators can leverage of-the-shelf Leddartech products such as the LeddarOne (single segment) and Leddar M16 (multi-segment) sensor modules. High-volume manufacturers may also opt to develop and build their own sensor modules based on the LeddarCore ICs, fully leveraging the Leddar technology while optimizing their design for the intended home and building application.
